MOMBASA

Mombasa is a historic coastal gem blending vibrant cultures, stunning beaches, rich Swahili cuisine, and timeless charm. A must-visit destination!

Day 1: Historical Dive & Coastal Charm

Morning:

  • Start your day with a visit to Fort Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore its rich history through fascinating exhibits, and don’t miss the incredible views of the Indian Ocean from the fort's battlements. The fort was built between 1593 and 1596 by order of King Felipe II of Spain, who also reigned as King Filipe I of Portugal.

  • Stroll through Old Town Mombasa, where narrow, winding streets are lined with Swahili, Portuguese, and Arab-inspired architecture. Stop by a quaint café for a refreshing glass of tamarind juice and some Swahili snacks like samosas or mabuyu (baobab candy).

Afternoon:

  • Enjoy a seafood feast at Tamarind Dhow, a floating restaurant that serves up fresh catch alongside stunning views of the ocean.

  • Afterward, head to Haller Park, a rehabilitated quarry turned into a lush nature reserve. Walk among giraffes, hippos, and giant tortoises while soaking in the serene greenery.

Evening:

  • End the day with a sunset walk along Nyali Beach. Dip your toes in the warm waters and let the cool breeze relax you.

Day 2: Thrills & Island Adventures

Morning:

  • Head to Mamba Village to see East Africa’s largest crocodile farm. Watch a thrilling feeding session and learn all about these fascinating reptiles.

  • Next, visit Nguuni Nature Sanctuary for a picnic amidst giraffes and ostriches. The sanctuary offers a peaceful and serene escape from the city buzz.

Afternoon:

  • Take a boat ride to Wasini Island for a magical marine experience. Snorkel in the clear waters of Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, where vibrant coral reefs and colorful fish await. If you’re lucky, you might even spot dolphins!

  • Relish a Swahili-inspired lunch on the island, featuring coconut rice, fresh fish, and mouthwatering local curries.

Evening:

  • Return to Mombasa and visit the bustling Marikiti Market and shop for souvenirs like kikois (Kikoi is a single piece of cloth which is wrapped around the waist, and rolled over outwards a couple of times and they can be used as a sling to hold a baby, towel, or a head wrap), buy some handmade jewelry, and aromatic spices.

Day 3:Relaxation & Culture

Morning:

  • Start with a leisurely visit to Diani Beach (just an hour’s drive south). Enjoy the soft white sands and turquoise waters—perfect for swimming, kayaking, or just lazing under a palm tree.

  • Treat yourself to a spa session at one of the beachfront resorts for ultimate relaxation.

Afternoon:

  • Savor a Swahili lunch at Ali Barbour’s Cave Restaurant, a unique dining experience set inside a natural coral cave. The ambiance is magical, and the food is divine.

  • After lunch, visit the Sacred Mijikenda Kaya Forests, a cultural and ecological treasure that offers insight into the heritage of the Mijikenda people.

Evening:

  • Cap off your trip with a dhow cruise along the Mtwapa Creek. Sip on a refreshing dawa cocktail as you glide through the waters, watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and pink.
